Thanksgiving. My favorite time of the year and possibly yours too! Family. Delicious food. Fall leaves. A chill in the air. COVID19; the pandemic that changed every life on the planet. After nine months, you may be dealing with the COVID Blues. Although we are facing some of the most challenging changes in our lives, there is good news:

We always have a choice in how we handle change.

As we experience feelings of frustration, isolation or disappointment due to the social distancing, masking or other outcomes, it is essential to acknowledge and work through these emotions. Then move on. Choose to focus on the positive. Embrace it with gratitude.

Move On

How can we move past the discouraging events or moments in life? What can we do to beat the COVID Blues? We CAN remind ourselves that this will not last forever and concentrate on what we CAN do.

We CAN

  1. Limit the time you spend listening to negativity and gloom. Change the subject or excuse yourself. Switch channels.
  2. Wake up and list the great things that are going to happen to you today. You can start with, “I can get out of bed!” Or, “I am going to initiate positive conversations.” Be proactive. Think big. Affirm the things you want to happen by putting them in writing.
  3. End each day listing what you are grateful for today. Studies prove you sleep better by filling your mind with thankful thoughts.
  4. Find alternatives to typical traditions. You may not be able to gather the entire family together. Like many of you, I miss hugging my family. To overcome the disappointment, I embrace what I CAN do.
  5. Connect with each other on WhatsApp, Facetime or Skype.
  6. Mail photographs. Simply mail pictures of what you are doing or past photos of you with them.

COVID19 may have stolen our touchable moments but it has given us time to think about what is meaningful. It has allowed us to gift others with memorable treasures. What treasures have you discovered?

I have discovered the art of slowing down a bit and taking the time to refresh and renew. And make some serious decisions about where I am going in my life and in my career. COVID-19 has encouraged me connect more with family members and reconnect with friends and family that I haven’t spoken to in awhile. Memorable treasures are time spent with family whether it is in person or virtually. I am beating the COVID blues by getting up each day and being positive and thankful. I spend my time finding joy and some happiness in these challenging times.

Hi Lisa, Thanks so much for sharing. Many people have expressed the same sentiments–slowing down, reassessing what is important in life, establishing stronger connections with friends and family–all things we were too busy to do pre-COVID. Keep seeking the joy in each day. Look for an email from me requesting your mailing address so I can send you a THANKS! mask. Stay healthy & Enjoy living the grateful life

We are having our events with the klds and grandkids outside this year and social distancing. We are trying to make it fun by providing a variety of masks that each person can choose from and ordering food in so we don’t have to worry about pot lucks. I will serve everyone and we have some fun grateful games to play. We will put everyone’s names in a bowl and each one picks and says 1 thing they are grateful for with regards to the name they pick.

Hi Paula, Sounds like fun for the family! I hope the weather cooperates. I like the idea of pulling names from a bowl–nice twist. Appreciate you sharing your plans. Please email me with your mailing address and I will get your THANKS! Mask in the mail.

I must say that each day Still flies by so fast. I am very grateful that we have technology to stay In touch with others through Facetime and Zoom. Although I miss seeing people in person, I think it has given us time to pursue deepening our relationships with others through social media, telephone and sending notes! I believe we have decided to really focus on the important things in life and make relationships a priority again. We have had to be creative in making meaningful connections with people

Hi Brooke, I agree. Once we are able to resume person-to-person contact (hopefully soon), I think we will value and appreciate our time together even more. Great to hear from you.
